Dear Lewis and Clark Parents and Students,

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at Lewis and Clark Elementary!

In this handbook you will find information regarding policies and procedures that help ensure Lewis and Clark is a safe environment-- for everyone--for learning.  Some policies and procedures outlined in this handbook require a parent/guardian to complete and return permission forms to school no later than Friday, September 10, 2010.  Items marked with  *** identify the forms that need to be completed and returned and can be found in the attached addendum.

Over a period of several years we have worked to develop guidelines and procedures that reflect the most current research on creating a school environment where academic achievement can flourish. We know that high level learning can only take place in an environment where all members of the school community feel safe and respected. We know that safety and respect grow when expectations and procedures are clear and consistent.

Creating and maintaining a quality learning environment involves everyone--parents, students, teachers, support staff, and community members. We are very proud of the commitment to quality learning and the support shown by all members of our school community. These are essential ingredients in our school’s continuing success.

Please take some time to review this handbook with your family.  The handbook is divided into sections to facilitate finding information easily.  The table of contents in the front and the index at the back of the handbook can help you locate information on any topic that you have questions about. If you have questions that are not addressed in the handbook, please call Mr. Sturgis at 542-4035 and we will get the answers for you. We welcome any and all feedback regarding the Lewis and Clark Family Handbook and about any aspect of our school.
