Dear Fellow Art and Writing Enthusiasts,
For the past five years, Aerie International has had one mission: unite students around the world through art and writing. We have received astonishing submissions of prose, poetry, art and photography from places as widespread as the United Arab Emirats, Sweden, Russia, South Africa, Cambodia, Canada and many places across the U.S. We wish for our magazine to allow readers a glimpse into the lives of students our age from cultures around the world.

For us, Aerie is much more than just a class. We make connections which will stay with us for the rest of our lives. These connections are only possible because of your submissions, which we could not appreciate more. During the school year, Aerie students work to better their own writing by observing the work of other students such as yourself. We have connected students from the UK to students in Oklahoma to students in South Africa, and this fact has had a profound impacts on us as writers, artists, editors and people.

This year we hope to reach even further by reconnecting with old friends as well as meeting new ones. It is your submissions which take us far from the realm of Missoula, MT to the diverse cultures we live in. It is your submissions which keep Aerie International's vast gears turning.

& the Aerie Team

Aerie International was born of a desire to offer outstanding young writers and artists an opportunity to share, edit, and publish their work internationally. What makes this journal unique is that it has been designed and produced by an editorial board comprised solely of high school students. We hope the magazine will not only draw on universal themes, but also on the particular images, colors, sounds and rhythms of the places and people from which they originate, whether it is Canada, South Africa, India or the U.S. As Melanie Reay, art teacher from Trinity School in England, said recently in a visit to our school, “Perhaps this magazine can foster friendships in times where friendship is difficult to achieve across the pond.” That is our hope.
